Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Civil Air Patrol strives to provide a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for all of its members and employees in alignment with our mission, vision, and core values.
Diversity
Diversity makes the organization stronger. Members and employees with different backgrounds, skills, abilities, perspectives, experiences, thoughts, and ideas contribute to the overall excellence of the organization.
Diversity also means achieving increased representation among our employees, members, community partners, and organizational leadership from historically underrepresented, underserved, and underestimated populations with the goal of reflecting the communities we serve.
Equity
Equity is centering efforts to remove any barriers that limit access and advancement. Providing the resources and support that individuals need to be successful. Eliminating existing disparities so every person can contribute fully. Ensuring that people from diverse backgrounds and experiences are engaged in decision-making processes.
The difference between equality and equity:
-
Equality is evenly distributed access to the resources and opportunities necessary for a safe, healthy, and successful life, regardless of identity.
-
Equity acknowledges there are historically underserved and underrepresented populations within society and that fairness regarding these unbalanced conditions is needed.
Inclusion
Civil Air Patrol also works to create a culture of belonging where barriers are removed so all are able to contribute to the success of the organization.
Inclusion is going beyond efforts to be welcoming through intentional practices and tangible actions that result in a clear experience of belonging rather than a perceived sense of community.
